The millennium bug was a computer problem that affected lots of computer systems. It happened because of the way in which some early computer programs were made to handle only years containing two digits (for example ’92 instead of 1992).

The first person known to publicly address this issue was Bob Bemer, who had noticed it in 1958 as a result of his job. He spent the next twenty years trying to make the governments aware of the issue but they wouldn’t listen to him.

Bob William Bemer was born on February 8, 1920 and died on June 22, 2004. He was a computer scientist best known for his work at during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
